We’re sad to announce that Convore will be shutting down on April 1st.
We are closing the site in order to focus our time and energy on working on Grove - hosted IRC for teams. We built Grove based on the lessons we learned with Convore and to better fit the needs of our business customers.
Grove certainly doesn’t replace all of Convore’s functionality and we sincerely hope that the communities built on Convore may find a new home.
If you’d like to export your personal data from Convore you can do so here: https://convore.com/export
We are sad to be letting Convore go, but we are excited by the opportunity to spend more of our time making Grove great.

Today is Jori Lallo’s first day at Convore. He’s from Finland and is joining the team as a summer intern. Jori is a skilled Django developer and designer and will be helping create new features for Convore.

Welcome @jorilallo!
Too many unreads??
Many of you have asked for better ways to control the noise, so starting today, we’re happy to introduce the ability to “mute” individual topics or even entire groups.
To mute a topic or group, simply click the pause button.

If you’d like to start seeing the unread counts again, click the play button to begin tracking the topic or group.

Only groups and topics that you are tracking will show unread counts and appear in your update digest e-mail. However, you can still read everything that happens and start tracking again at any time.
We hope this helps with some of the more noisy topics and groups. Thanks for all your feedback! We’re listening.
We’re very excited to announce a new feature for Convore. It’s something that we’ve been wanting for a long time - private messages!
Now you can send an individual Convore user a private message and have a conversation between just the two of you.

To send a private message from a group chat, just click the “message” icon to start your private conversation.

You can also create a private chat directly from the person’s profile page.

Just like group conversations, your private messages will be stored and saved so you can check them at any time. Convore will even send you email when you have a new private message.
We’re very excited to introduce the Convore iPhone app today. Lots of you have requested an iPhone app and we hope you love the new app as much as we do.
Get the Convore iPhone app now!

Some features of the iPhone app include:
- Live chat and updates - View conversations as they happen and chat in real-time with your groups on Convore. Stay up-to-date while on-the-go!
- Stars and replies - Click on a message to reply or to star it. Let other people know what you think!
- Online now - See who’s using Convore at the moment and be sure to say “hi.”
- Discover new groups - Find popular and featured groups to join or search for a particular group. You can also create new groups and invite your friends to join.
A special thanks to Mark Paschal (markpasc) for developing the Convore iPhone app in time for SXSW and PyCon!

We use a lot of Python at Convore. If you peek under the hood at just about any part of Convore’s codebase, you’ll find Python. For that reason, we’re thrilled to announce that we’re now the recommended real-time backchannel for PyCon 2011. If you’d like to join in on the fun, head over to https://convore.com/pycon-2011/ to see what’s going on. Our co-founder Eric Florenzano will be there (with schwag!) so be sure to say hello and let us know how we can help make Convore better for you.
If you have any question about whether to go to PyCon, and you’re in any way interested in Python, you should go. It’s a blast, you’ll learn a ton of great stuff, and the Convore team wants to meet you! If for whatever reason you can’t make it though, there’s another option: attend virtually on Convore. Many of the conference attendees will be online talking about the goings on, so although it might be jealousy-inducing, by following along on Convore you’ll be able to capture a part of the PyCon experience from afar.
In celebration of PyCon, we wanted to do something to make the site better for coders. As coders ourselves, we constantly want to share little snippets of code with each other, and doing that on Convore wasn’t very nice. Not anymore! We have just released a feature that lets you paste code or other text into a chat on Convore, and its original formatting will be preserved.
People are already using it to share fun snippets, but there was an unintended consequence of this new change: ASCII art!
We hope you enjoy the new feature, and we can’t wait to see you at PyCon!

Join the Convore team at SXSW Interactive in Austin this week!
Be sure to catch up with our team and say “hi.” We’ll armed with lots of swag - stickers and these nifty keychain bottle openers.
Don’t miss our co-founder Leah’s panel on Friday! She’ll be discussing group chat apps alongside folks from GroupMe, Beluga, and Yobongo.

See you at SXSW!
A few days ago we launch a new search results page on Convore. Many of our users commented on the inefficient search results and yes we knew they weren’t ideal. Our new search page includes segmented search results so you can see Messages, Groups, Topics and Users all in one search effort. We will be continuing to make the search experience even better and think this is a step in the right direction. Enjoy…
